About the opportunity
SWCA Environmental Consultants is seeking a Cultural Resources Project Manager for our Hawai‘i Office to work on projects throughout the Hawaiian Islands. The Cultural Resources Project Manager will be a core member of our rapidly growing Hawai‘i Cultural Resources Program, responsible for managing client relationships, supervising staff, successfully winning and executing projects, and leading all aspects of project implementation. This is a regular, full-time, salaried position reporting to the Hawai’i cultural resources team lead that can be accomplished from anywhere within the Hawaiian Islands. This position is a great career-growth opportunity for the right candidate to join SWCA’s cultural resources practice in Hawai‘i.

The ideal candidate should possess experience in Hawaiian archaeology and a knowledge of Hawaiian culture. Successful applicants must be experienced in project management. Salary will be based on individual qualifications and experience.

What you will accomplish
– Oversee all aspects of project implementation including staffing, fieldwork, research, report writing, and quality review
– Supervise personnel in the field, office, and laboratory
– Serve as primary author on large technical reports, research designs, and other technical documents
– Assist with training and mentoring of staff
– Nurture and develop client relationships and contribute to proposal development
– Maintain good working relationships with state and federal agency contacts and clients
– Collaborate with SWCA’s managers, directors, and principal investigators on technical and business development efforts
– Maintain SWCA’s high standard of scientific ethics and quality deliverables
– Identify and resolve problems in creative ways
– Collaborate as part of an interdisciplinary environmental team
– Assist in the continuing development of SWCA’s Hawai‘i Cultural Resources Program and expand SWCA’s professional reputation in cultural resources consulting and research throughout Hawai‘i and beyond

Experience and qualifications for success
– Master’s Degree in anthropology, archaeology, history, or a closely related field
– Minimum of three (3) years of experience in cultural resources management (CRM) on a variety of project types, sizes, and agencies, with increasing levels of responsibility
– Minimum of one (1) years of experience in CRM in a leadership capacity, whether in the field or in the office
– Experience managing CRM projects, including budgets, scheduling, and scopes of work
– Meet the Secretary of the Interior’s Professional Qualifications Standards in archaeology
– Experience with Hawaiian archaeology and a – knowledge of Hawaiian culture
– Qualified to serve as a Principal Investigator under Hawaii Administrative Rules 13-281 is considered a plus
– Demonstrated knowledge in federal, state, and local laws and regulations related to the management of cultural resources (HRS 6E, NHPA Section 106)
– Has completed all aspects of a project, from pre-field tasks to final report preparation for a variety of project types and sizes, and agencies
– Excellent technical writing skills with a record of completing technical reports in a timely fashion
– Has provided quality review of field documents, site forms, and reports
– Has led crews on a variety of project types, sizes, and agencies
– Ability to adapt quickly to changes in project needs, agency requests, and more
– Ability to work independently and collaboratively with a variety of colleagues, clients, and agency representatives
– Must be, or plan to be, a Hawai‘i resident
