GIS Technician

International Archaeology, LLC is seeking an Archaeological GIS Technician to support various projects by preparing and processing GPS field data, generating and configuring GIS data, and creating maps and graphics using GIS software. This role requires collaboration with the GIS Director, Project Director, and Principal Investigator to meet project needs.

 

Responsibilities

•       Report to the GIS Director

•       Respond to the needs of field crews to support GPS data collection

•       Coordinate with report authors to produce informative and pleasing graphics to present the results of field survey or analyses

•       Georeference maps and aerial photos, evaluate resulting errors

•       Work with standardized geodatabases (SDSFIE, Navy Data Model, GeoFidelis)

•       Prepare GIS deliverables to the specification of the client

•       Practice good cartographic techniques and exercise a good sense of graphic design

•       Perform basic geospatial analyses

•       Assist with GPS hardware

•       Follow standard operating procedures and the departmental style guide

•       Practice good file organization

•       Use Microsoft Office 365 to manage tasks and communicate with team members

•       Additional duties as assigned

 

Qualifications

•       Familiarity with ArcGIS Pro

•       Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Excel, Word, and Adobe Acrobat

•       Understanding of Microsoft Windows

•       Good oral and written communication skills

•       Analytical and problem-solving skills

•       Strong ability to work both independently and well as part of a team

•       A willingness to learn and take the initiative on a variety of tasks and projects

•       A positive attitude

•       Experience with ArcGIS Field Maps, ArcGIS Survey123, ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Online, Microsoft Access, SQL, or Python is a plus

•       Experience with a variety of GPS units (Trimble, Arrow, Bad Elf, Spectra, Emlid, etc) and GPS related applications (TerraFlex, TerraOffice, etc)  is a plus

 

Education

Undergraduate degree in anthropology, geography, forestry, or a related discipline. Coursework in GIS including cartography and working with geodatabases, or other equivalent experience. Candidates in school but finishing a bachelor’s degree soon may also be considered.

 

FLSA: Full Time

Location: Honolulu, HI (On-site)

Pay Range: $45K to $55K
