Job Title: Archaeology Field Technician (Hawaii)

Position Overview

This role involves conducting intensive archaeological survey, excavation, and monitoring of construction or other ground-disturbing activities. The position demands strong attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team in diverse field conditions.

 

Responsibilities

•         Recognize surface and subsurface archaeological resources.

•         Conduct field surveys in designated project areas to identify and record historical and prehistoric cultural resources.

•         Conduct unit excavation, photography, and exploratory trenching, with meticulous attention to detailed record-keeping.

•         Document and describe soil profiles.

•         Utilize a professional-grade global positioning system (GPS) receiver to record the location of cultural resources.

•         Prepare plan view and profile drawings according to mapping conventions.

•         Complete all relevant digital and/or paper field forms accurately and efficiently.

•         Assist with fieldwork, including laboratory analysis.

•         Catalog materials, including bagging and tagging sorted items and completing data entry.

•         Photograph artifacts in laboratory and field settings.

•         Create copies of and annotate digital field photos as needed for report publication.

 

Qualifications

•         Completion of an archaeology field school.

•         Alternatively, at least two years of field and/or laboratory experience demonstrating thorough knowledge of the fundamental principles and theories of professional archaeology.

•         At least four months of supervised field and analytic experience.

 

Education

·         Bachelor’s Degree or higher with an emphasis in archaeology or a related field.
