Survey of Hawaiian Archaeology Curation
Aloha mai kākou,
The Curation Sub-Committee of the Society for Hawaiian Archaeology (SHA) are requesting your assistance to understand the state of archaeological collections originating from Hawaii. We are hoping to be able to quantify and assess the condition of these collections with the intention of preparing a report for stakeholders. Our long term goal is to improve the care of this important cultural heritage and be accountable.
With your help, the Society for Hawaiian Archaeology Curation Survey (2023) is being undertaken to obtain information on the quantity and current condition of collections only. All information pertaining to specific company/organization/agency or respondent names will be held in strictest confidence. Data will be presented in aggregate format and summaries of the results will be shared with all participants.
Every Hawaiian archaeology collection represents a unique and irreplaceable part of our cultural heritage and in some cases are all that remain from archaeological sites impacted by projects. We have a duty to care for these collections for the long term. Our hope is that you too agree and will set some time aside to provide information on the collections under your care.
