The 2014 Society for Hawaiian Archaeology Conference aims to inspire and promote the binding together of indigenous and western knowledge systems within the field of cultural resource management to acknowledge, honor, and perpetuate our kūpuna’s ancestral wisdom. The conference will take place in Hilo, Hawaiʻi, at UH Hilo’s new Ka Haka ‘Ula O Ke‘elikōlani College of Hawaiian Language Haleʻōlelo Building
Highlights of the conference will include huakaʻi, or field trips, to different cultural and historical sites on Hawaiʻi Island; a welcome reception and presentation of the Hawaiʻi Cultural Stewardship Award at the East Hawaiʻi Cultural Center; an ʻahaʻāina of traditional Hawaiian foods, a keynote address, and entertainment at the Nani Mau Gardens; paper presentations, panels, poster presentations, and workshops. We will also hold the second annual student poster contest, which will include acknowledgments and prizes for stand-out entries.
