POSITION: An Archaeologist/Cultural Resources Specialist position is available with Colorado State University and the Center for Environmental Management of Military Lands (CEMML) to provide on-site program support for Commander, Navy Region Hawaii. This position will be duty-stationed at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam (JBPHH) on the Island of Oahu.
PAY RATE: Annual salary range is $89,000-$98,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Relocation allowance is available; conditions apply.
RESPONSIBILITIES: The Archaeologist/Cultural Resources Specialist is expected to function as part of a team that supports Navy Region Hawaii’s (CNRH) cultural resources management and compliance tasks. The position requires a combination of office and field activities to assess potential effects of proposed undertakings. This position requires excellent interpersonal skills, collaboration, flexibility, and diplomacy. The Archaeologist will provide cultural resource management and evaluation technical support, review and asses impacts on archaeological sites and historic properties, and coordinate with project proponents and managers.
The primary duties include assisting Navy Region Hawaii in the following: perform background and archival research; assess potential effects of proposed undertakings; review and/or prepare reports, NRHP eligibility evaluations, and site forms; and assist in the development of mitigation and/or treatment plans.
Must be able to communicate and interact with internal/external staff, Navy officials, seamen, airmen, and the public in a professional manner. Work requires a high degree of independent judgment/decision making, technical writing and organizational skills, attention to detail, and people skills.
