Position Announcement: Archaeology Field Technician

International Archaeology, LLC (IA) is accepting applications for the position of Archaeology Field Technician in the Honolulu office. This is a full-time temporary position that will last for several months. The term may be extended as company needs and individual performance warrant. The work will include several monitoring and survey projects on O‘ahu. Assistance also may be needed on projects on Hawai‘i neighbor islands and in Western Micronesia. A minimum of 2 years of archaeological experience in Pacific Island archaeology is required, including at least 1 year of archaeological monitoring in Hawai‘i. The position requires work experience and skill sufficient to independently recognize surface and subsurface archaeological remains, assess the type of work needed to appropriately perform field documentation of the remains, and to efficiently carry out such documentation, which includes maintaining organized and comprehensive written records (including soil descriptions), and the preparation of tape and compass plan maps and measured stratigraphic profiles. Ability to use specialized equipment or perform specialized tasks is advantageous but not required (e.g., total station, professional-grade GPS, GIS, human osteology, archival/historical research, analyses of historical artifacts, faunal analyses, etc.). Physical fitness is necessary for undertaking occasional strenuous activity in hot and humid and/or rainy conditions, and for traversing rough and densely vegetated terrain. Non-field tasks may be assigned on occasion, depending on the skills and interests of the applicant. Applicants must have:
1) B.A. or M.A. degree in anthropology with specialization in archaeology or a degree in a related field
2) Completion of an archaeology field school course
3) Previous archaeological work experience
Some off-island travel may be necessary. A valid driver’s license is required. Wage and benefits are commensurate with the position, experience of the applicant, and industry standards.
